The mission of Rise Against Hunger is to end hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life-saving aid to the world's most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.

Rise Against Hunger envisions a world without hunger. Based in Raleigh, SHN stages meal-packaging programs in 19 cities in the U.S. and in South Africa, Malaysia, India, Italy and the Philippines. They have engaged over 500,000 volunteers in these events.

The packaging process combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix with 21 essential vitamins and minerals. The dry mix is funneled into small meal envelopes that are packed and shipped around the world to support school lunch programs and to provide food for those in crisis. The food stores well, it can be transported quickly, and it has a shelf-life of two years.

Holy Trinity has hosted three meal-packaging sessions for Rise Against Hunger. In those events, a total of $10,924 purchased enough food for 39,170 meals that we packaged for shipment overseas.

Each packaging session was held in the church Fellowship Hall with about 60 enthusiastic volunteers working in assembly-line fashion for about an hour and a half. Music and good spirits prevailed.

If you would like to contribute to our next event, make checks payable to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with "Rise Against Hunger" in the memo line.
